Gaza boy, 4, succumbs to wounds from 2014 Israel war

Israeli Air Force is bombing several targets in Gaza on Thursday in response to a volley of mortar fire from Palestinian militants, as tensions escalate after President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. An IDF spokesman said two rocket launches had been identified with both falling inside the Gaza Strip.

"Following the sirens that were sounded in Hof Ashkelon & Sha'ar HaNegev regional councils in southern Israel earlier this evening, 2 launches from Gaza towards Israel landed within the Gaza Strip", IDF tweeted.

Shortly afterwards, the army fired a tank shell into a Palestinian land, in Juhr ed-Deek area, southeast of Gaza city.

During the Gaza war in 2014, Israel's Iron Dome rocket interceptor system largely protected the country's heartland from thousands of rocket barrages fired by terrorists.

West Bank Violence Flares

The IDF sent soldiers to inspect the area for signs of impact, but, finding none, determined that the two rockets had not reached Israeli territory, a spokesperson said. Local services told Sputnik that around 50 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli security forces.

The Palestinian Authority called for a general strike in Palestinian cities as a result of Trump's declaration, while Hamas has taken a harder line and is advocating for a new Palestinian uprising.

The Palestinians seek the eastern sector of the city as the capital of their future state.
