GOP Rep. Franks Expected To Resign, Says Statement To Come

Both Roll Call and Politico are reporting Thursday night, Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks is expected to resign. It did not elaborate why Franks has chosen to resign.

An unnamed Arizona Republican told RollCall that "rumors" of inappropriate behavior have been "swirling around" Franks "for years, at least in 2012".

Franks told reporters he would release a statement explaining his decision to step down. "And if this turns out to be true, there won't be that many people who are surprised".

"Half of all black children are aborted", Franks infamously said in 2010.

He closely considered a run for Senate in 2012, dropping out suddenly in a manner that fueled speculation in Arizona political circles about a potential issues with his personal life.

Franks sits on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. He served a term in the state House in the 1980s.

Allegations about Franks come hours after Minnesota Sen.
