Iraq demands USA backtrack on Jerusalem, militia says troops a target

President Donald Trump defied decades of USA policy on Wednesday and recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, jeopardising Middle East peace efforts and ignoring warnings from Arab leaders and Western allies alike of stoking more unrest.

"As terrorist attacks, political upheaval, and violence often take place without any warning, US citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness when traveling", it reads.

"U.S. government facilities worldwide remain in a heightened state of alert", the warning read.

"The last time the @statedept issued a "Worldwide Caution" because of a U.S. policy decision was March 2003 at the start of the Iraq war", he said on Twitter.

The State Department previously issued a travel warning for Israel on April 11, 2017.

The U.S. embassy in Jordan also posted its own security message, stating that it has suspended most services, limited the movement of its employees and their families, and would keep the children of embassy workers home from school on Thursday.

The warning went on to urge American citizens to be aware of local developments and remain in contact with U.S. embassies or consulates.

"Americans in Jordan are encouraged to maintain a low profile and to remain alert to developments", the message said.

President Donald Trump reversed decades of USA policy on Wednesday and recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, imperilling Middle East peace efforts and upsetting the Arab world and Western allies alike.

Palestinian have demanded that part of Jerusalem be set aside as their capital and the global community has traditionally view Tel Aviv as the capital of Israel. "No civilized, democratic and peace-loving people will tolerate it".

Terming the United States decision "naive" and "dangerous" for worldwide peace, the separatists said these unilateral and anti-Muslim decisions were bound to deteriorate and damage the already fragile peace and tranquillity of the world.

"Trump's stupid decision to make Jerusalem a capital for the Zionist will be the big spark for removing this entity from the body of the Islamic nation, and a legitimate reason to target American forces", said the group's leader Akram al-Kaabi.

Israel captured East Jerusalem in 1967; it is now home to more than a quarter million Palestinians.
