Maina: Oyo-Ita Denies Endorsing Letter Of Reinstatement

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Ahmed Idris, yesterday clarified that the embattled former Chairman, Pensions Reform Task Team (PRTT), Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina, is not now on the federal government payroll as earlier claimed by his lawyers.

Magaji, however, contradicted himself while responding to a question from the panel when he declared that Maina was not reinstated. "Let evidence be provided". "The EFCC did not receive a single property from Abdulrasheed Maina", Mr. Magu said.

The permanent secretary, who explained that he was not in the ministry when Maina was dismissed, also disclosed that the ministry conducted a senior staff committee meeting following a letter asking that Maina be reinstated, which was attended by representatives from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the Federal Civil Service Commission. From March 2013, Maina was removed from the government's payroll.

While in court, he further challenged his dismissal by his employer, and the Attorney General of the Federation was joined in the suit.

According to Kuta, assignments were still being given to him to execute for the Federal Government even as at last month and he was getting his salary.

Essentially, these were the basis for Maina's recourse to the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, for his reinstatement as a result of the judgments in his favour and that actually kick-started a process which had now gone awry.

Magusaid all proceeds of fraud ever recovered by the commission are products of independent investigation.

"So, according to our records, he hasn't been travelling since 2013".

Speaking at an investigative hearing by the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee, Babandede also revealed that Maina has three passports and dual citizenship of Nigeria and the United States of America.

He said he did not instruct any Kabiru, a member of Maina's Task Team from the EFCC to sign such a letter and that he was seeing the letter for the first time.

"The Ministry of Interior did not wait to get a posting instruction before they went ahead and reinstated Maina and assigned him duties".

Winifred Oyo-ita insists she was not part of the reinstatement of Maina.

"I did not endorse the letter for the reinstatement of Maina".

He, however, added that he didn't carry out Maina's reinstatement personally, adding that the head of human resources did and informed him about Maina's resumption of duty.

Oyo-Ita added: "I the Head of Service, will never have released the letter to him".

The HoS, who made the declaration, also said the Ministry of Interior acted on an advance copy sent to the Federal Civil Service Commission, which was for information goal.

Magaji stated that, following the meeting, the HoS was directed to take "further necessary action".

"The request for Maina's reinstatement as submitted to my office by Maina's lawyers was a work-in-progress as at October 5, 2017, " he added.

Lawal Musa Daura says Maina's name was not placed on the DSS list so he could not be arrested.

The adhoc committee, adjourned to continue the hearing on a later date.
