Malzahn agrees to 'broad outlines' of new deal with Auburn

- The morning after the Georgia Bulldogs defeated Auburn in the SEC Championship, one Dawgs fan gave a wake-up call to his next door neighbor.

Auburn University confirmed Sunday night that Malzahn agreed to "agreed to the broad outlines of a new contract extending his leadership of the Tigers". The Tigers were selected to face undefeated UCF in the Peach Bowl.

Gus Malzahn has agreed to a new seven-year deal to stay with Auburn, Brandon Marcello of 247 sports reports.

The Georgia Bulldogs are moving on up in the latest Amway Coaches Poll. Malzahn is an Arkansas native who was a longtime Arkansas high school coach and is a former Razorbacks assistant.

Auburn's head coach was pressed on the rumors and reports coming out of Arkansas throughout this past weekend.

"I'm blessed to be the head coach at Auburn".

Malzahn reiterated several times that he was to remain with the Tigers, saying "I'm happy at Auburn". I love my players.

Malzahn led the seventh-ranked Tigers into the Southeastern Conference championship game but had faced repeated questions about whether he was interested in the Arkansas job in his home state. Assuming Clemson, who is the No. 1 ranked team in the country, gets the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, Georgia likely will head to the Rose Bowl and take on Oklahoma in one of the College Football Playoff semifinals. "As I said before this game, we worked extremely hard to get here to this point, and we've got a very good foundation built, and I think the best is yet to come".
