Musk wants to send his first Tesla Roadster in orbit around Mars

The rocket's triumvirate of boosters give Falcon Heavy substantially more thrust than Falcon 9 though, allowing the larger rocket to carry more than 140,000lb into lower Earth orbit and 37,000lb to Mars. Musk's tweets seem to negate reports from prior this week that the Falcon Heavy dispatch wouldn't happen until mid-2018. Guaranteed to be exciting, one way or another, ' Musk posted.

SpaceX has revolutionized the rocket industry, but it has also suffered spectacular setbacks over the years, including rockets blowing up on the launchpad and in flight.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, its most powerful reusable rocket to date, may have its initially dispatch before the finish of the year after all - and it will incorporate Elon Musk's one of a kind Tesla.

Just weeks after debuting Tesla's 2020 Roadster, Elon Musk has announced that his personal, midnight cherry Tesla Roadster will be the payload for SpaceX's latest rocket launch.

"She will remain in space for billions of years, if not explode at the start", said Musk.

According to Space Flight Now, the Falcon Heavy still has to pass some major hurdles before Musk's planned Ziggy Stardust stunt in January, however. It's called the BFR, or Big Falcon Rocket, which inside the company is nicknamed the "Big F-ing Rocket".

SpaceX has shaken up the aerospace industry by dramatically slashing costs and developing rockets that can blast out of the atmosphere and then come back down to land on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Falcon Heavy is a beefed up version of the company's Falcon 9 rocket which, along with its Dragon craft capsule, has been used multiple times to bring supplies to astronauts on board the International Space Station, before safely returning to Earth.
