NFL Announces Suspensions For Steelers, Bengals Players

JuJu Smith-Schuster deserved to get tossed from Monday night's game against the Cincinnati Bengals for his vicious, dirty hit on Vontaze Burfict (watch here).

After the play, Smith-Schuster stood over Burfict and appeared to talk to him. The wideout then stood over Burfict, with Smith-Schuster later admitting that he "messed up" by taunting the fallen linebacker since it cost his team 15 yards.

"On a passing play to a running back you lined up as a defender and delivered a violent and unnecessary blindside shot to his head and neck area".

Iolka was suspended for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown late in the fourth quarter. He struck Brown square in the head as he caught a game-tying touchdown pass, though Brown was uninjured.

"You are suspended for the risky and unsportsmanlike acts you committed during the fourth quarter of last night's game".

Just a day prior, the National Football League had also issued a one-game suspension to Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots tight end, for diving helmet-first into the back of a defender's head while the defender was laying on the ground after the play had ended.

The suspensions bring the total to three from on-field actions in Week 13.

On Tuesday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he took more issue with the taunting than the hit. "Those hits are teachable moments". "He's a better sportsman than he displayed after the block". But they did last night in an instance or two and we'll make an accounting of that and work hard to make sure that they don't happen again.

Official word from on a suspension for Smith-Schuster should come sometime later on Tuesday. "I was trying to get a big block for Le'Veon Bell for him to get upfield", Smith-Schuster said. I apologize for standing over him and that isn't me. After I seen the replay I think I should've held back a little bit more from blocking him. I shouldn't have done that.

"I'll acknowledge that there were some unfortunate things in that game that we don't need in our game - by both sides", Tomlin said.

He also apologized in a postgame tweet.
