Philadelphia 76ers trade Jahlil Okafor to Nets

Okafor, 21, will now receive a fresh start to a once-promising career, which included averages of 17.5 points, seven rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 53 games as a rookie. In addition to Okafor, the Sixers will also send shooting guard Nik Stauskas to BK in exchange for Trevor Booker and a 2019 second round pick via the New York Knicks.

The Boston Celtics were nearly always mentioned in rumored deals for Okafor (then again, which rumors weren't they mentioned in the last few years?), and in a way, Thursday's trade will likely make Boston fans smile just a little bit. Not to mention, the Sixers had used the same pick on Joel Embiid the year before in the NBA Draft, so there was always a debate on how Okafor would fit into the picture when it comes to big men on this team since he appeared to be the odd man out.

As for whether the Sixers should be anxious about this trade coming back to haunt them down the road when considering the Nets are in the same division, well let's just say Okafor hasn't given the team any reason for panic. The 6-foot-11 Okafor has been out of the 76ers' rotation for parts of the past two seasons, playing in only two games this year.

Okafor has been a disappointment for the 76ers since the team drafted him third overall in 2015, and never quite fit into what they wanted to do on the floor. He now joins D'Angelo Russell, the No. 2 pick in that draft, on a Nets roster with some intriguing young talent.

Both Stauskas and Okafor will be free agents at the end of the 2017-18 season.
