Samsung Bixby Enabled Smart Speakers To Launch in First Half of 2018

Bloomberg also notes that Samsung's smart speaker will synchronize with Samsung's other devices like phones and TVs as well as work with the company's SmartThings platform. With the launch of its own smart speaker, Samsung will have to compete against the likes of Amazon, Google and Apple.

Although the pricing and release plans are yet to be confirmed, according to the sources, Samsung is planning to sell the speaker for around $200 (about £148).

'As I mentioned I wanted to provide a fruitful user experience at home with Samsung devices, and I want to be moving quite heavily on it, ' he added.

It looks like "soon" for Samsung is several months later, because a report from Bloomberg suggests we may see the smart speaker launch at some point in the first half of 2018. Let's hope that Samsung improves Bixby and comes with some awesome smart speakers.

Many aspects of the Samsung speaker will remain a mystery for the time being, but in terms of its design, a source claims that a prototype now in testing is "between the size of Amazon's latest Echo and the HomePod".

According to the report, the smart speaker will not feature a display, though the lights at the top of the device indicate some level of visual feedback. Given it's described as an audio device, coupled with the fact that the company has its own voice-assistant, Bixby, and that its design looks like a screen mounted on a tripod, many assumed Samsung was prepping its very own Amazon Echo Show rival.

Bixby is a smart assistant, similar to Apple's Siri and Microsoft's Cortana. Samsung declined to comment.

In August, Samsung executive DJ Koh said the company was working on a smart speaker without sharing details. The Apple HomePod is expected to retail for $350. Google has its Assistant that seems to be getting better by the day for its Home products, as does Amazon's Alexa with Echo.

Leaks and rumours from the past year will have you believe that a Bixby-powered smart speaker is on the way.
