"Therefore, subsequent notifications issued under section/s of Aadhaar Act for requiring Aadhaar as primary identifier by various ministries and departments of Government of India and States/UTs Governments for various services, benefits and subsidies hold the field today", the statement said. He reportedly said that the Centre was ready to argue the matter.

Attorney General KK Venugopal told a bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, that 6th February will, however, remain the deadline for linking Aadhaar for availing uninterrupted mobile services as it had been mandated by the apex court.

The petitioners represented by senior advocate Shyam Divan urged the court to direct the Centre not to take any coercive steps against those who fail to link their Aadhaar with various services.

The UIDAI said that the video referred to an order passed by the Supreme Court on August 11, 2015, when it had restricted the use of Aadhaar to just a few schemes.

Justice Puttuswamy and many others have challenged the validity of Aadhaar Act on the grounds that it violates the fundamental right to privacy. The users have to get the Aadhaar card linked to their bank accounts and PAN card by December 31.

Also there is no change in the deadlines set for verifying bank accounts and PAN cards.

Some petitioners have termed the mandatory linking of the UIDAI number with bank accounts and mobile numbers as "illegal and unconstitutional".

The Supreme Court had made it clear that banks and telecom service providers should clearly indicate the last date of linking bank accounts and mobile numbers with Aadhaar in their communications with customers to avoid panic.

It said that the video was outdated because it does not reflect the latest legal position as on December 7, 2017.

Notifications have been issued making Aadhaar mandatory for availing various welfare benefits such as public distribution services (PDS), cooking gas LPG, MNREGS, scholarships and pensions.

The Supreme Court is now scheduled to hear the Aadhaar card case next week.

Earlier this year, the government made it mandatory to link Aadhaar card to SIM card.
