Willie Taggart leaves OR for FSU, Cristobal named interim head coach

Now, Taggart will be tasked with replacing former coach Jimbo Fisher and helping Florida State return to prominence in the ACC and as a contender for the College Football Playoff semifinals. "We watched the 'Noles first, then everyone else".

Fisher was later asked why he would have left what appeared to be a comfortable set up at FSU, to which he replied: "And then my relationship with Scott, the ability to come back and work and relive that vision of things that we had did before at LSU, I think it was a no-brainer in a insane way", Fisher said.

Taggart has a 47-50 career record, including 7-5 this season, but is known as a rebuilder.

"I feel like he kind of betrayed us, let us down.promised us a really good recruiting class".

"I apologized (to everyone at Oregon) before I left". The next day he tweeted - before deleting it - more: "Lost all words I could've been down the street from my house but came here off the strength of what you said". Co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal will lead OR in the bowl game against Boise State. Some fun facts about the Ducks' interim head coach.

Leavitt had a more successful run building South Florida with 95-57 record in 13 seasons as head coach, but he was sacked in 2010 after being accused of hitting a player.

Cristobal joined OR in January.

From 2007 to 2012 he was the head coach at Florida International.

"If Mr. Mullens hires (Cristobal) or (Leavitt) as Oregon's permanent head coach, you'll have the 2018 brotherhood back together, the original one!"

Some possible outside candidates Mullens could pursue include former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, former Florida coach Jim McElwain, Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford and Boise State coach Bryan Harsin. While that is not at all unusual for a man tabbed with leading a blue blood program, Taggart elected to leave the Oregon Ducks without a head coach and, apparently, that is not going over well with everyone.

By all accounts, Taggart could not have made a better first impression. "I know the last two coaches we've had here won a lot of ball games". All of the assistants will coach through the bowl game.

Across the country, not all Ducks players and recruits agreed. "I feel like our recruiting class is not going to be as good as it should have been in the coming years", said Lucas Murphy, a freshman at U of O.
