Yashwant Sinha has my full support, concerned about him: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said:"I am concerned about @YashwantSinha Ji former Union Finance Minister in jail".

Later, Janata Dal (United) leader, wrote on twitter, "Worrying that senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has been arrested in Akola, Maharashtra, on orders of a BJP government, for the crime of protesting against the admin's apathy towards cotton and soybean farmers in Vidarbha". "He has our full support", she added. Sinha was detained during the farmers' morcha taken out to the office of District Collector.

Sinha, whose son Jayant Sinha is a minister in Narendra Modi's government, has criticised the Prime Narendra and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley for their economic policies, which he says, has incited a slowdown that will not go away before the next general elections in 2019. Shiv Sena MLA Gopikishan Bajoriya, Congress leader Sudhakar Gangane, former legislator Laxman Tayade, Haridas Bhade and others met Sinha and rallied behind the demands of farmers.

Sinha, who arrived here in Vidarbha three days ago to participate in the Kapus Soyabean Dhan (cotton, soyabean, paddy) Parishad, was detained, along with farmers, by police near the collectorate.

With Sinha adamant about staying put at the protest venue, the police was forced to take him and the agitating farmers to the Akola district police headquarters ground where they were placed under detention till the wee hours of Tuesday. "We have told him that if he wishes, he is free to leave", district collector Asit Kumar Pandey told PTI. You are seeing the mood of farmers now.

The demands include compensation to cotton farmers for losses incurred due to pink bollworm infestation, action against companies manufacturing "bogus" biotechnologically modified seeds and 100 percent payout for crop losses to moong, udid and soyabean farmers.

Sinha said he spoke to several local and national leaders about issues related to cultivators. "On gaining power, the party forgot its promise", Mr Sinha said.

"Neither has he reached out to me, nor have I tried to talk to him", Sinha was quoted by NDTV as saying when he pointed out that he has had no word over this agitation with party colleague and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The important thing is that farmers get relief...
