A busy Wednesday for Blackhawks ends with loss to Wild

It was the first five-point contest of Kane's career, and the first time he had four assists in one game. "Just making the right play out there and finishing off some plays".

Only Derick Brassard and Mark Stone were able to beat Chicago goalie Anton Forsberg as the Senators hit the halfway mark with a 14-18-9 record and in 29th place in the league. "And then going in the third down 6-2 it's going to be hard and especially when they're having a night on their PP (power play) and they score another two". After 30 relentless minutes in the net, he was replaced by Mike Condon, who allowed four goals on 17 shots. It paid off early, as Seabrook pounced on a Michal Kempny rebound in the crease and knocked it in for just his second goal of the season. The one thing I like about his play is that he can get pucks on net when nearly all of the other 'Hawks defensemen have their shots blocked.

It had the feel of a playoff game in the hours leading up to it for the simple fact that both teams entered the matchup tied with 48 points in the jam-packed Western Conference.

"I don't think in any circumstance that we need more saves. But now we've had to - and the Blackhawks have had to - go in December and say hey, whoa, if we don't start winning and playing our best hockey now, we're going to be left by the wayside".

The second period was once again troubling as Anderson gave up three goals on four shots in a span of 4:39. "We made mistakes. We made mistakes in key areas and our goaltenders have been solid".

The talented but inconsistent Duclair has nine goals and six assists in 33 games this season, scoring in each of his last two games after reports surfaced that he had asked for a trade. They surrendered five goals in the period - including three on the power play- as the Senators tried to battle back but fell way short. Toews added another in the third, giving him five goals in his last five games.

"We fell off in the second period and we couldn't climb back", said alternate captain Dion Phaneuf.

That sometime was Tuesday night. "I really can not be any more honest with you than admitting that we have to find a way to be better in the second, more consistent and play to our capabilities".

This is Ryan's third hand injury in 12 months and seventh since 2014.

Notes: D Mark Borowiecki (concussion), Johnny Oduya (lower body) and C Nate Thompson (lower body) did not play for the Senators. He won't play in Toronto on Wednesday night.

Then, earlier today, the Blackhawks called up Erik Gustafsson while deciding to healthy-scratch Brent Seabrook from tonight's game against Ottawa.

Senators: Head to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night before having a week off.
