Airbus China Appoints New CEO, Chairman

In Xu's new role, he is responsible for all Airbus commercial aircraft activities and will lead the company's helicopter, defense and space businesses in China.

Airbus is close to finalizing a deal to sell 184 A320 aircraft to Chinese carriers, French President Emmanuel Macron said at the end of his three-day state visit to China, The Wall Street Journal reports.

"It's my privilege to have been working with Airbus for more than 20 years".

"China will preserve its volume of purchases in the future and will preserve parity in market share between Airbus and Boeing", Macron said.

The Airbus planes are manufactured by France, with production and manufacturing facilities in Germany, Spain, China, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

Xu was formerly director of the Investment Promotion Bureau of the Tianjin Free Trade Zone.

George Xu was Chairman of the Board of Airbus A320 Family Final Assembly Line and, in parallel, Vice President of the Tianjin Free Trade Zone Administrative Committee in 2011 till 2014.

In a strategic move to strengthen Tianjin's A320 final assembly line and Airbus and National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC) have recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

"The industrial cooperation between Airbus and China and its continued success are a true role model of a winning partnership between China and Europe".

Xu received a Bachelor's degree in Information Management Systems from Tianjin University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Roosevelt University of Chicago.
