Amazon shipped over 5bn items to Prime customers in 2017

Tens of millions of members around the world enjoy the many benefits included with Prime, and in fact, more new paid members joined Prime worldwide this year than any previous year.

In the USA the number of items available for unlimited free two-day shipping has doubled from 50 million to 100 million items and is in addition to Prime one and same day services available in more than 8,000 U.S. cities and towns, and two-hour delivery with Prime Now in more than 30 major cities.

The online retailer, Amazon.com, announced that in 2017 it sold more than 5 billion products worldwide through its Prime service, which has added more new subscribers than ever.

"From Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot to Imagine Dragons, Manchester by the Sea and even the Instant Pot, Prime members certainly have great taste!"

Amazon doesn't reveal how many Prime members it has, and analyst estimates vary widely. Prime membership continued to grow during the holidays as Amazon incented shoppers with free trial offers.

Elsewhere in its annual streaming data report, Amazon revealed that, on a per capita basis in the U.S., Prime members in the District of Columbia watched the most Thursday Night Football on Prime Video, followed by those in Washington state and Colorado. Looking at in-depth figures, the Prime Day 2017 managed to scoop a massive 60% increase from a year over year. Furthermore, the e-commerce giant also managed to bag a massive number of sales with their Alexa speakers. In October, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners issued a press release saying Amazon had 90 million Prime subscribers, which it based on a survey of 500 Amazon users.
