Bakary Sako leads Crystal Palace to victory over Burnley

A 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace on Saturday made it six games without a win for Burnley since that victory over Stoke which lifted Sean Dyche's side into the top four against all the odds. "I thought they were better in the first half and they played a very simple format but delivered it well in a 4-2-4, getting the ball forward quickly and looking a handful".

From a similar position in the 21st minute he gave Palace the lead.

The away side uncharacteristically retreated when Sakho collected Christian Benteke's pass on the left hand side and the Mali global drove in to the box and fired past Nick Pope.

There was still plenty to do when Sako retrieved Benteke's flick, but he drove towards a backpedalling Phil Bardsley and crashed a low shot through Tarkowski's legs that flew into the net via the boot of Nick Pope.

Ben Mee slid in to beat James McArthur to the loose ball and cleared off the line.

Christian Benteke headed a Milivojevic corner over the Burnley crossbar on 28 minutes, as Sam Vokes flashed a header, from a Johann Berg Gudmundsson delivery, just wide with the half winding down, ahead of a finger-tip save from a Barnes volley.

The latest success was built on Bakary Sako's well-taken first-half goal, some sparkling moves before the break and a more resilient performance in the second half, when Burnley stirred and began to pose a threat.

"We re-addressed it at half-time and I was very pleased with the second half, and overall a draw [would have] probably [been] a fair result in my reflection on it".

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou was introduced in place of Jeff Hendrick for a Burnley debut after the hour and the Tottenham loanee nearly had an immediate impact, clipping in a cross from the byline on the left that Gudmundsson was unable to turn home.

Crystal Palace will be at home at Selhurst Park this weekend as the Eagles host Burnley in this weekends round of the English Premier League.

Crystal Palace are playing well and with the form they are in, they will hope to avoid relegation easily.

- Only Southampton (10) are on a current longer winless run in the Premier League than Burnley (6).
