Bear attack in Southwest Florida leaves man with serious wounds

A swipe from a bear's paw is one of the most unsafe in the animal kingdom and Andy was left with a huge gash on his face which required 44 stitches.

Meunier told deputies that after his dog ran inside, a bear attacked him, swiping at him with its paw.

"I'm just happy to be alive", Meunier said.

Now a trap outside of Meunier's apartment hopes to lure in the bears with food.

"I came outside and he was right there and I tried to run and it wasn't fast enough", said Meunier.

"That's run through my head, what if it was very bad and she came downstairs wondering where I was and there I was laying...yeah it's scary", said Meunier.

"It felt like somebody punch me", he said. "I look like I got in a fight with Wolverine". He was treated at a hospital, where he underwent a four surgery where he received 41 stitches to close the deep wound. "It could've been a totally different story".

Andree Meunier was attacked by a bear outside his Naples apartment.

FWC officers will also be searching for the bears in addition to setting up the traps. 'And like I said, she's had three cubs around with her'.

Carol Lyn Parrish, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed the agency receiving 13 calls regarding human-bear interactions in the area around the Amberton Townhomes complex since October. Meunier told WZVN that he was told he's the first person to ever be attacked by a bear in South Florida.
