Bears hire Matt Nagy as head coach

The Chicago Bears have found their next head coach.

The Chicago Bears are expected to reach a deal with Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to become their next head coach, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Chicago has also interviewed Philadelphia quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, Minnesota and New England offensive coordinators Pat Shurmur and Josh McDaniels, Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards and Chicago defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Nagy's entire National Football League coaching career has been spent under Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk noted on December 26, before the team's meaningless Week 17 contest after it had already clinched the AFC West, Reid's decision to give Nagy play-calling duties was one of the keys to the season. Before that, he served as quarterbacks coach in Kansas City from 2013-2015. Despite losing in his first game calling plays, the Chiefs still scored 31 points against the Jets. Fox had a 14-34 record in three years with the Bears and a.292 winning percentage that ranks as the second-lowest in franchise history.
