Bears' Rhule interviewed for Colts

The latest news that Rhule plans to stay with Baylor in Waco means the Colts will be looking elsewhere for a new head coach.

The Indianapolis Colt seem determined to have a thorough search for a head coach, interviewing multiple candidates to replace Chuck Pagano to this point. After interviewing with the colts, Rhule has made a decision to stay at Baylor.

The same week ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reported Matt Rhule interviewed for the Indianapolis Colt's head coaching job, Rhule has withdrawn his name from consideration for the NFL gig, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Rhule did not respond to a Tribune-Herald request for comment, and Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades declined to comment, citing Baylor personnel policy. Prior to that he was the head coach at Temple. Per Rhule, he effected the majority of the success Baylor has had in that area during the 2017 season.

Rhule's first season with Baylor yielded lackluster results on the field, but provided hope for the future and a stout recruiting class.

Rhule has previous coaching experience in the National Football League as the New York Giants' offensive line coach back in 2012.

It's hard to imagine a logical list of National Football League head coaching candidates including Rhule anywhere.
