Bulls trounce Knicks, 122-119, in double overtime

The #New York Knicks (19-21) look to get back to their previous ways of winning at #Madison Square Garden when they take on the #Chicago Bulls (14-27) on Wednesday. It was hard to witness Bulls twitter talk down on him in the manner they did.

Who the Trends Like: Chicago is 0-4 ATS in its last four meetings in NY and 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.

"Against a team you're equal to, when you have a lead at home that's when you've got to put the hammer down", Jeff Hornacek said. O'Quinn struggled in both overtime periods. Markkanen finished (Finnished?) with a career-high 33 points and 10 rebounds, including an 8-of-15 night from the three-point line (tying a Bulls rookie record), including a big one to tie the game in overtime.

But the fading Knicks, who are in the middle of a stretch of 16 of 20 on the road, squandered an 11-point lead at home against the Bulls - who are 15-27 on the season, yet 3-0 against NY.

After getting caught in a bad matchup on a switch, Dunn then followed with decent defense on Kristaps Porzingis, who missed a jumper. A running bank shot by Kris Dunn gave Chicago a 118-116 lead with 58.7 seconds to go.

After Evans' foul shots, the Pelicans had a chance for a tie, but E'Twaun Moore's 3-point attempt from the left wing bounced off the front of the rim.

Jack came up with a steal, but then turned it over when his pass to Beasley went out of bounds with 18 seconds left.

Markkanen entered the game averaging 14.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game.

Porzingis then cut the Bulls lead to one point with 7.3 seconds left with a three coming out of the NY timeout. But Jarrett Jack returned the favor on the ensuing possession, and Justin Holiday tacked on two free throws with 13.9 seconds remaining. I wasn't going to try it, honestly. Smith, who struggled with his shot, going 5-14 for 11 points, was gracious in his appraisal of Ntilikina but downplayed the comparisons after the two engaged in a demonstrably friendly exchange on the court after the game.

Instead, Porzingis continually catches the ball 15-plus feet away from the basket and is asked to score in isolation.

The Bulls never trailed in the second overtime. After Jack missed inside, Dunn missed on the other end.

Russell Westbrook had 38 points and 10 rebounds, but Paul George, Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the Thunder had a tough time shooting.

In regulation, the Bulls led 98-92 with 5:45 remaining.

In Minneapolis, Jimmy Butler scored 26 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had eight assists for the Timberwolves in a victory over Oklahoma City.

On the next trip, Markkanen misfired on a three-pointer. The refs initially ruled Knicks' ball.

"The mid-range, that's my shot, and I kept getting to my spots", said Dunn, according to a January 10 ESPN article. The Knicks rank fourth in offensive rebounding percentage (25.5 percent), while Chicago ranks second in defensive rebounding percentage (81.0 percent). The Knicks rebounded and called timeout with four-tenths of a second left. Too many times he doesn't make enough contact with the defender.
