CHP makes 22 DUI arrests over New Year's weekend

The week prior over the Christmas weekend there were 14 arrests, said CHP spokesman Jon Sloat.

Pennsylvania State Police Wednesday reported that it arrested fewer drivers for DUI this New Year's holiday weekend compared to last year.

The numbers from the California Highway Patrol showed 169 more DUI-related arrests and 13 more fatalities over the holiday weekend statewide in 2017-2018 in comparison to 2016-2017.

CHP made two DUI arrests following traffic accidents during the same period previous year. There were three fatal crashes a year ago that resulted in four fatalities.

In addition to the arrests, officers responded to two collisions, according to a news release.

The San Andreas-area CHP also wrote 41 citations for speeding and 23 citations for seatbelt violations, expired registration and other mechanical issues. "Driving under the influence of cannabis and other drugs remains illegal", added Acting Commissioner Stanley. Calling a taxi or a sober friend or family member, using public transportation or the increasingly popular ride-sharing services can be the difference between life or death.
