Florida man claims $450 million Mega Millions jackpot

A 20-year-old man in the United States has won a Mega Millions lottery grand prize of US$451 million (NZ$626 million), the fourth largest prize in the game's 21-year history.

The Florida Lottery said in a news release that Missler chose to take the lump sum payout of $281.2 million.

On his Facebook page on January 5, the evening of the drawing, Missler had also shared a brief post, "Oh. My".

Missler came forward on Friday to claim the lone winning ticket in the second largest jackpot won by a single ticket, according to the Florida Lottery.

The jackpot-winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven, located at 7131 Ridge Road in Port Richey.

He shared the news with his father over coffee the following day.

A believer in the power of a positive mindset, Shane wasn't really surprised that he had won. The money is to be paid to a trust, managed by Missler, under the name of "Secret 007, LLC".

"Although I'm young, I've had a crash course this week in financial management and I feel so fortunate to have this incredible wealth and team behind me", he said. "I look forward to the future".

The Mega Millions winning numbers were 28-30-39-59-70 and the Mega Ball was 10.

There was only one Mega Millions ticket sold that won a jackpot worth $450 million.

Missler has "retired" from his job at a background screening company and plans to move, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The jackpot is the fourth-largest in Mega Millions history, and Missler is the sole victor.
