Former Ole Miss Coach Hugh Freeze Meets with Nick Saban

According to Aaron Suttles of The Tuscaloosa News, former Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze interviewed for the open offensive coordinator position with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Saban has always had a healthy respect for Freeze, who gave Alabama fits with his offense.

As The Tuscaloosa News points out, the restrictions and suspensions Freeze received from the NCAA would only apply if he takes another head coaching job, not an assistant coach job like being an offensive coordinator. His team beat Alabama in 2014 and 2015, making him one of only two coaches to beat Saban's Tide in consecutive years.

Even though Alabama does have an offensive coordinator vacancy to fill with Brian Daboll moving back to the National Football League to become the Bills' new OC, I don't think Freeze's meeting was all about specifically replacing Daboll.

Freeze left Oxford after it was revealed he had been using his school-issued phone to call escorts while out on recruiting trips. This marks the second offensive coordinator in as many years to leave Nick Saban's College juggernaut for the NFL. Although McElwain was sacked by Florida, he helped Alabama to national titles in 2009 and '11.

In addition to losing defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt to Tennessee, Alabama just lost offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to the Buffalo Bills.
