Guice Declares for Draft

Baton Rouge - Derrius Guice will enter the National Football League draft, he's the fifth underclassman from LSU to declare this season.

Guice finished his LSU career with 3,074 yards and 29 touchdowns on 471 attempts, as well as 32 receptions for 250 yards and three touchdowns.

Guice joins Arden Key (OLB) Kevin Toliver (CB) Donte Jackson (CB) and Toby Weathersby (OT) as LSU underclassman who have declared for this year's draft. Much like Leonard Fournette past year, Guice could have an immediate impact in the NFL.

Scout.com named him a first-team All-America selection and he earned both first-and second-team honors from the SEC coaches as a first-team running back and second-team all-purpose player. According to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, Guice holds LSU's career yards-per-carry record (6.5) and has the school's single-game rushing record after torching Texas A&M for 285 yards in 2016. The first came last season against Arkansas, when the tailback posted 252 in a win. He missed one game and parts of others but had a breakout showing against Ole Miss with 22 carries for 276 yards and a touchdown. He was even better as a sophomore, piling up 1,387 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Guice (5-11, 218) has the frame to hold up at the next level and his film shows a unique blend of strength and burst from his lower body.
