Ivanka Trump slammed as 'hypocrite' for praising Oprah

"Oprah will be lots of fun", Trump said, talking to reporters at the White House ahead of a meeting with lawmakers about immigration legislation.

"I know her very well", he said, before adding: "I don't think she's going to run". (Its past recipients include 47 white men, 14 white women and three black men: Poitier, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington.) So, Winfrey said, she was very conscious there were impressionable girls at home watching her that night.

After college, she went into journalism before reigning for 25 years as queen of the USA talk show, ushering in an era of confessional television before becoming the first black woman to own a television network.

Asked what advice she would give a political outsider looking to run for president, press secretary Sarah Sanders declined to engage. "It's okay. 2018", she said, likely referring to the upcoming midterm elections.

Alex Jones, the nutritional supplement salesman who leads the Infowars outlet, and Gavin McInnes, who hosts a show on CRTV and leads the freaky "Proud Boys" club, reacted to media speculation about whether Oprah Winfrey would run for president by claiming that Winfrey is a lesbian who helped, and sometimes participated in, Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein's alleged sexual assaults on women. I do think she was intrigued by the idea.

Again, this is another sign that Jones, who used to be a general opponent of everything and anything attached to either the government or conventional thought, has become less a catchall conspiracist than a freelance advocate for President Donald Trump (albeit a particularly unhinged one).

Gabriel Debenedetti, a writer for Politico, tweeted poll information that showed support for Winfrey running, but noted that the information is "based on zero evidence that she'd even consider doing it". You can't criticize Trump for having no relevant experience or evident understanding of public policy, then say that the solution for Democrats is just to throw up their hands and find their own celebrity to promote.

The White House continued to field questions about a potential Winfrey candidacy Tuesday afternoon.

"But she'd occupy a very important space in the race that right now no one else could fill", Cutter said.

While accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes, Winfrey invoked Taylor's name in a speech that delved into racism and sexism.

Oprah hasn't personally given a clear answer on a presidential run since the speech, but she publicly ruled it out as recently as three months ago.

However, Oprah herself has said that she is not interested in running for the seat.

"There will be no running for office of any kind for me", Oprah said on CBS This Morning back in October of 2017, flanked by her friend King. She told her story. "It'd be a pretty good ticket".
