'John Wick' Is Back (As A Television Show On Starz)

The logline for the series reveals that we'll also be discovering a new branch of the Continental in the television series, this time in Los Angeles (the films introduced us to the New York City Continental, as well as seemingly more ancient satellite in Rome during John Wick: Chapter 2). However, the show will exist "side-by-side" with the John Wick films, as far as the timeline does.

"The Continental", from writer and executive producer Chris Collins, includes Reeves as an executive producer, Starz execs said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday. Starz will retain domestic multiplatform pay TV and SVOD rights to the series, while Lionsgate will control global, domestic distribution and home entertainment rights. The Continental will be a series about the film's hotel chain built for assassins. It's very tied to the film [in that] it's about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool.

The third John Wick movie, which stars Keanu, is due out in theaters in 2019. Since then, the show's been titled The Continental, and branded a "prequel" to the events of the "super assassin and his dog" franchise, focusing on the worldwide hotel chain where these killers go to have a beer, tool up, and think about existential shit. John Wick veterans David Leitch, Derek Kolstad and Basil Iwanyk are executive producers along with Reeves.

This is clearly a big step forward for the project, and hopefully a way for this universe to continue, even if John Wick: Chapters 3 winds up being the last of the films. "[It's] one of those great social media phenomenal fan bases that just help have a voice in recommending shows to peers".

"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV", said Starz President & CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement.
