Leonardo DiCaprio Officially Cast in New Quentin Tarantino Movie

Sony's ability to market films and appeal to an global market is said to be what led to the decision.

The project will be Leonardo's first since he won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant. After much buzz about the project, rumored to have a wider appeal than Tarantino's previous effort, The Hateful Eight, Sony Pictures emerged the victor, granting the film a $100 million budget and a prime slot in the summer schedule.

Plot details for the unnamed Manson film are still thin on the ground at this stage, but it's thought to be a 1969-set ensemble flick that in some way details the Manson family murders - which were orchestrated by Charles Manson, one of the most widely-known serial killers of all time. So, if she is tapped for the Tarantino film - she already has experience portraying a real-life person where audiences already know an extensive backstory.

The release date for the film will mark the 50th anniversary of the murder of Sharon Tate and four others on August 9, 1969. Margot Robbie has been approached to play the ill-fated actress, though Tarantino claims the movie won't really be about Manson. Rather, it will be a Pulp Fiction-esque film that simply takes place at the time of the Manson murders in Hollywood. DiCaprio and Tarantino last collaborated on 2012's "Django Unchained". Evidently though, DiCaprio has landed one of the two major male roles that Tom Cruise was said to be circling at one point. Business Insider contacted DiCaprio and Tarantino's representatives for confirmation but did not get an immediate response. Variety is reporting that Tarantino also wants Al Pacino in the movie, and that the filmmaker has even written a role in the movie specifically for the veteran actor.

It will be interesting to see how fast the rest of the cast now comes together, and to see what role DiCaprio has.
