Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho responds to Antonio Conte's 'little man' comments

Former England manager Fabio Capello branded feuding managers Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte as "totally out of their minds" for letting their public spat get out of control.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has refused to bite at Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte's latest comments as he wants to put an end to the war of words. Or you can expect contempt. It started when Mourinho criticized Conte for making fun of his team after Chelsea humiliated Mourinho's Manchester United 4-0 on his first return to the club.

"Then he insulted me for a second time but now I change and now [I have] contempt".

The 36-year-old hasn't featured since December and Mourinho confirmed he was set for several more weeks on the sidelines.

We should, as Capello warned, be fearful of an insult-mongering Mourinho, but we should take extra notice of the Special One descending into a pregnant, contempt-fuelled silence.

Conte has endured a strained relationship with the Blues board this season, owing to a disagreement over the club's transfer policy back in the summer.

On Friday, Mourinho said he wanted an end to the story despite still harbouring ill-feeling towards Conte, who appears content to close the chapter.

Despite guiding Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge, Conte has been repeatedly questioned over his future in recent months, amid continued speculation he could depart before his contract expires in June 2019. If somebody speaks of one of my players to tell we are interested, I wouldn't be very happy. This is the history of this club for the manager. "I can give my opinion to my club for every situation, then they have to make the best decision and that is right". Soon after the turn of the year, Mourinho added further fuel to this feud and while asking about his reported unhappiness at the club, the Portuguese quoted, "Because I don't behave as a clown on the touchline? I think in other clubs this doesn't happen".
