It was their best mark since 2013, when they went 11-2, and came in Muschamp's second year leading the program.

According to WACH FOX in South Carolina, Lattimore will return to the Gamecocks as the team's director of player development.

Krantz has served in his current position for both of Muschamp's two years in Columbia after previously working with Muschamp and Travaris Robinson in the same role at Auburn in 2015.

After serving as a defensive coach with coordinating stints aplenty, Muschamp earned his first head coaching gig with the Florida Gators in 2011.

A 2009 graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in sociology, Krantz began his career as a student assistant for the defense at UNC from 2007-08 before becoming the linebackers coach at his alma mater from 2009-10.

Muschamp would owe SC a $4 million buyout should he leave the Gamecocks next season, a figure that decreases to $3.5 million in 2019 and $3 million in 2020.

One of the most popular players in the history of the program, Lattimore played with the Gamecocks from 2010-2012 and helped lead the team to an SEC East title in his freshman year. His sophomore and junior seasons were abbreviated after sustaining major knee injuries.

He wanted to get back to SC for a while, especially since Will Muschamp was hired as the head coach, but he was forbidden to do so by the NCAA because he has a foundation that involves some Gamecocks recruits.

"No one will relate to our players about dealing with success and facing adversity more than Marcus".

He is married to the former Miranda Bailey.
