As Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a Dream speech" plays more than 25,000 march in Sacramento's March for the Dream in honor of MLK in less than two minutes.

So now, when we celebrate Martin Luther King's vision for America, we can also find inspiration in another dream of his, one of liberty and economic justice for all. The civil rights leader would be turning 89.

National parks and national forests across the US that charge entrance fees will be free for visitors Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

"I hope that the youth understand who Dr. King was, what his legacy was and what part they will ultimately play in making his legacy a reality", he said.


Jones said this is the second year she's been involved in the program, and what she's noticed is some families use the day to plan their own days of service or visit museums to recognize King in their own way. Volunteers are asked to check-in at The Mill Conference Center at 8 a.m., which includes breakfast and a free t-shirt.

One way to be of service is to donate blood. "Day", said Hale, who serves as the Reserve Personnel Action Center command liaison for the U.S. Army Reserve's 99th Readiness Division.

A special program begins at 9 a.m., where Former State Rep. Tyrone Ellis will speak.

"I think cultural diversity is important in DeKalb, and in terms of our young people and the way the colleges are, they're diverse, all different kinds of ethnic backgrounds, and that's the way the world is now", said resident Sylvia Smith. This is true of Coretta Scott King, King's wife, and how she carried on even after King was assassinated.
