Matt Rhule gives Ken Niumatalolo ringing endorsement

The Midshipmen's head coach has made a decision on the Power 5 job.

Ken Niumatalolo received a ringing endorsement from colleague Matt Rhule as he vies for the Arizona Wildcats head coaching job.

Navy's 52-year-old head coach was being pursued by Arizona for its head coaching vacancy.

The Arizona job came open when Rich Rodriguez was sacked January 2 amid allegations of sexual misconduct brought by a former athletic department employee.

This news should be pleasing to at least one Arizona player. In a tweet he has since deleted, standout quarterback Khalil Tate voiced his displeasure at the thought of switching from the spread offense used by Rodriguez to the triple-option scheme run by Niumatalolo. The Wildcats were reportedly very far along with Niumatalolo, with Football Scoop reporting that they were negotiating a contract.

Rodriguez was sacked as Arizona's head coach on January 3 following a sexual harassment allegation.

According to Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman, Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo is no longer a candidate for the head coaching position.

In 11 seasons at Navy, Niumatalolo has a record of 84-48, and he has led the Midshipmen to a bowl game on 10 occasions. Two years ago, he had an offer on the table from BYU, but ultimately opted to stay at Navy.
