McCarthy directing offseason of change in Green Bay

The changes on the Packers coaching staff won't be limited to the defense.

Van Pelt joined the Packers organization in 2012, and was in his second season coaching the QB's.

"When you say you have a standard at the Green Bay Packers, it stops right there", McCarthy said at his season-ending press conference Thursday at Lambeau Field. Trgovac coached the defensive line since 2009. Long-time defensive coordinator Dom Capers is gone.

One of the NFL's most stable and successful franchises has embarked an offseason of change The Green Bay Packers are replacing Ted Thompson as general manager.

It's been a busy week in Green Bay.

Striking the right balance will be up to the new GM and McCarthy together to get the Packers back into championship contention after the most disappointing season in Green Bay in almost a decade.

"We didn't continue our streak of playoff appearances, so we need to reboot, cleanse, however you want to word it", McCarthy said. During all five of his seasons as the offensive coordinator, the Packers would finish top 10 in points and yards. On a personal note, Ted's work ethic, humility and loyalty are almost unparalleled, and it has been one of the great honors of my life to work beside him. In 2010, Capers coordinated a unit that finished No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (15.0 points per game) en route to winning Super Bowl XLV.

Now changes are being made on offense. This is about doing what's in the best interests of the Green Bay Packers. All aspects of football operations will be evaluated once the coaching staff is set. "I've been fortunate to have worked with many dedicated people throughout the organization and I can't thank Mark Murphy, Mike McCarthy, the football-operations staff and our scouts enough for their friendship and support", said Thompson. "He cares about it, and when you see somebody who cares about it as much as Ben does, you can't help but have respect for the guy". Injuries sapped depth the last two seasons at the cornerback position, forcing younger players who may not have been ready for bigger roles to step up.

Needless to say, the Packers are not messing around.

We all saw what backup quarterback Brett Hundley gave the Green Bay Packers in 2017.
