Minkah Fitzpatrick Was in the Bathroom During the National Championship's Biggest Moment

Alabama trailed 20-13 with 7:10 left in the game when Tagovailoa marched the Tide all the way down to the Georgia 7-yard line.

That national championship Crimson Tide team was defined by its two quarterbacks.

No one can question the College Playoff Selection Committee now for putting Alabama in the field as the No. 4 seed even after the 'Tide failed to make it to the SEC championship game.

Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban won his fifth national title with Alabama last night, and this one will be remembered for his bold decision to replace starting quarterback Jalen Hurts with a freshman southpaw named Tua Tagovailoa, who had only seen action in the regular season when the Tide were way ahead in a game, with nothing on the line, so he was thrust pretty quickly into the spotlight of a nationally televised championship game played in front of more than 75,000 fans in Atlanta when Saban chose to roll the dice. Marcus is a really social guy and he took the time.

Saban had already made the decision to make the switch to Tagovailoa, leaving Hurts to move over into the role of cheerleader. We thought Fromm was great...but when you watch Tua's talent that was off of the charts unique.

Tua - not knowing he would take a snap, experience a sack or save the game - was reliable, responsible and ready. On the next play, he found Smith, another freshman, and hit him in stride. But to say Tagovailoa was "pretty obviously better" and then imply that the coaching staff failed to figure that out through 12 games sure smells like criticism to us.

"Right now, we're Bulldogs fans", sports book director Chuck Esposito said.

Heisman Trophy victor and current Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who went to the same all-boys Catholic school in Honolulu as Tagovailoa, took note of the young QB on Tuesday.

"I'm saying what's going to be unique about this situation?"

"The kid is a stud", Mariota said, per the Titans' website.

"These are all things I think are a little bit unique, but very self-gratifying".

It was evident Tagovailoa didn't spend the entire summer and season pouting about his lack of opportunities to display his skills.

It certainly appears that the Southeastern Conference is set up for good quarterback play over the next several years. "We all knew that he could do it". The fact that the Giants didn't hire Wilks immediately doesn't mean he's out of the running, but the door is now open for the Cardinals or Colts to snatch him. "That's what our school breeds", Passas said.

"They're the Giants", Arians said. "I believe in Tua". "It's a life-changing moment for him and his family in just a matter of 35 minutes of football".

"Love You Too Lil Bro", he wrote in response to Tagovailoa's tweet.

We're reminded of the time-tested adage - that's why the game is played.
