City, however, consider the financial package demanded by Arsenal and Sanchez's representatives too high for a player with just six months left on his contract.

The Premier League leaders had a £60m bid for the Chile worldwide accepted in August, only for the proposed transfer to collapse as Arsenal failed in their attempt to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco as a replacement.

Recent reports indicate that City's January move for Sanchez may also fall apart, though, and arch-rivals United are keen to jump in on the move.

Manchester United have received encouragement in their late pursuit of Alexis Sanchez after Manchester City decide to walk away from the forward.

"Look, honestly, I can not tell you much more at the moment about this situation", Wenger told his pre-match media conference.

"That would represent a good deal because Arsenal will not have a star if Sanchez and Ozil go". I don't think it is correct to say things about Alexis Sanchez.

City boss Pep Guardiola refused to discuss the matter at his Friday press conference to preview his side's clash with Liverpool this weekend.

David Ornstein confirmed on Thursday evening that Arsenal look set to lose Alexis Sanchez this January and that the Gunners have identified their replacement: Malcom.

"No player would say, "Oh I hope he doesn't come".

When asked if United were interested in signing the 29- year-old Chilean worldwide, who is out of contract at the end of the season, Wenger said "nothing is really concrete at the moment". "Of course I want a quick resolution".

"I would not like my players, when they see me on TV or read the newspapers, (to hear) the manager talking about another (player) and thinking they are not important".

"No, it doesn't worry me personally", the Germany worldwide said in quotes reported by The Guardian. There is always a way to find a balance.

Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott all have 18 months remaining on their deals, and Wenger believes he knows why more and more players are choosing to run down their contracts.
