New Balochistan CM promises healthcare, education and clean drinking water

Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), was elected the new chief minister of Balochistan by the provincial assembly on Saturday by bagging 41 votes.

Bizenjo won over 41 votes of the 54 votes cast while Agha received only 13 votes.

On January 09, former chief minister Sanaullah Zehri stepped down from his post following mounting pressure in the wake of no-trust motion against him in the provincial assembly.

It merits a mention here that the third candidate Abdul Raheem Ziaratwal of Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party withdrew his nomination papers before the election process in favour of Syed Agha Liaquat Ali nominated by the same party.

"Maintenance of public order shall remain the utmost priority with the protection of the life and property of the people without any discrimination", Bizenjo told the House.

Zardari and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had claimed after ex-CM Sanaullah Zehri's resignation that the new leader of the House would be a PPP member.

"I will reach out to all political parties, including PkMAP and NP for parliamentary consultation and we will try to resolve issues in the province by keeping everyone together", said the newly-elected chief minister.

Fourteen cabinet members also took the oath administered by the Balochistan governor.

Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was born in Awaran on Januaray 1, 1974, and contested elections for the first time in 2002.

Bizenjo belongs to the troubled Awaran district of Balochistan and was elected on a PML-Q ticket during general elections 2013. When he joined the PML-N-led coalition government in the province, Bizenjo was nominated as the deputy speaker of the Balochistan Assembly in June 2013. A number of ministers had resigned following the motion submitted against Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri.
