Plane evacuated after Toronto airport collision

A WestJet Boeing 737-800 aircraft had 168 passengers and six crew on board, and was stationary while waiting to proceed to the gate when the collision occurred, according to WestJet.

Both WestJet and Sunwing confirmed that their planes were involved in the collision at Toronto Pearson International, the second such incident at the airport in five months.

Video showed a fire near the Sunwing plane's tail and WestJet passengers sliding down emergency chutes.

Dozens of passengers were evacuated at Toronto's Pearson Airport on Friday, after a plane pushing back from a gate struck an arriving jet, causing a fire, WestJet Airlines said in a statement.

"A Sunwing aircraft, under tow by our ground handling service provider, came into contact with another aircraft".

Emergency response crews are on scene, but there have been no reports of injuries at this time.

The airport said the incident took place at Terminal 3 at around 7 p.m. on Friday.
