Rep. McSally Officially Jumps Into Arizona Senate Race

She is also seen as a strong GOP contender for the Senate seat in a possible run against Democratic U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, who represents Arizona's 9th District and has also positioned herself as a moderate candidate.

"Like our president, I'm exhausted of P.C. politicians and their B.S. excuses", McSally says after the video of Trump's comments. "I recently made one myself, and I wanted my friends in Tucson to be the first to know. I'm a fighter pilot and I talk like one - That's why I told Washington Republicans to grow a pair of ovaries and get the job done", she says in the video.

Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who announced a year ago that he is not seeking re-election, is seen as key to Republican hopes of holding on to their slim 51-49 majority in the U.S. Senate.

The U.S. Air Force Academy graduate's official biography also notes that her squadron was awarded the Air Force Association David C. Schilling Award in 2006 for their work in Afghanistan.

Sheriff Joe, best known for his abuse of prisoners in his Maricopa County jails, his birther conspiracy theories and his rabid, rabid anti-immigration stance, stated on Tuesday that he will run in the GOP primary to replace Flake, who is not running for re-election. "It's a time of big and defining choices", McSally told the crowd after she'd safely landed.

Despite the aggressive rhetoric in her announcement video, some of McSally's conservative critics dismiss her as an establishment favorite whose record doesn't match her tough talk.

Earlier today, McSally released a video announcing her campaign that emphasized both her military background and her relationship with President Donald Trump.

McSally has courted Trump's support in recent months while still presenting herself as middle of the road.

It also muddies what could be a crowded GOP primary for the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. "As we discussed on Tuesday, we won't allow our troops to be held hostage by DACA negotiations".

McSally also co-sponsored an immigration plan released by House conservatives this week that would reduce legal immigration levels by 25 percent, block federal grants to sanctuary cities and restrict the number of relatives that immigrants already in the US can bring here.

"I started this because of a fake document - a government document", Mr Arpaio said of his and Mr Trump's now-infamous campaign to delegitimize Mr Obama's birth certificate. Trump won Arizona in 2016 by less than 4 points.

Democratic political consultant Rodd McLeod thinks Arpaio might be able to win the primary because "there is a market for that" among Arizona Republicans. Sharia law is the religious law of Islam but has become a political punching bag for many conservatives.

"As a member of the wildly unpopular Republican Congress, Mitch McConnell's handpicked candidate Rep. McSally has spent her career as a reliable vote for corporate special interests and Wall Street, not Arizona families", J.B. Poersch, the organization's president, said in a statement. "After taking on terrorists in combat, the Liberals in the Senate won't scare me one bit". "Most people who like Trump generally gravitate toward Arpaio".

Christie reported from Phoenix.
