Sandip Lamichhane to play for Delhi Daredevils in IPL

This 17-year-old cricketer was bought for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs.

A year ago at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction we saw Mohammad Nabi become the first cricketer from Afghanistan to be picked for the lucrative T20 league.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke was also impressed with Sandeep's performance, who had chosen this teen to play for Hong Kong T20 Blitz.

In fact, Clarke had even tweeted on the occasion of Lamichhane being picked for IPL, "To the people of Nepal, you should be very proud of @IamSandeep25 he is little champion who wants to do his country proud". Sandeep was the only Nepali player involved in the IPL auction. I will try my best to perform in every match I play. Associate players as a whole gained more respect and recognition over the past year by virtue of the success enjoyed by Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi first with Sunrisers Hyderabad and continuing on with their respective CPL and Big Bash League franchises. "And, to be the first Nepal player to represent in India is an unbelievable feeling", he told Asian Age.

Lamichhane, who was part of the Nepal squad during the 2016 U19 World Cup, picked 14 wickets from six matches and emerged as the second highest wicket-taker from the tournament. He scalped a fifer against Ireland and took Nepal to quarter-finals for the first time.

Despite playing for a national team that does not hold ODI or T20I status and is now preparing for Division Two of the World Cricket League in Namibia, Lamichhane's selection represents proof that there is a desire to reward highly skilled talents regardless of their background.
