Saudi Arabia intercepts ballistic missile

"These (missile launch) are aimed at threatening the security of not only Saudi Arabia but also the region and the world as firing of ballistic missiles targeting densely populated cities and villages is contrary to global humanitarian law", he said in Riyadh.

Yemen lies on the southern mouth of the Red Sea, one of the world's most important trade routes for oil tankers, which pass its shores as they head from the Middle East through the Suez Canal to Europe.

"In a blatant violation of worldwide law, the Iranian-Houthi militia on Saturday attempted an attack by three remote-controlled drone boats, targeting a Saudi oil tanker and threatening to disrupt navigation in Bab El-Mandeb strait", Colonel Turki Al-Maliki.

"If the aggressors keep pushing toward Hodeidah and if the political solution hits wall, there are some strategic choices that will be taken as a no return point, including blocking the worldwide navigation in the Red Sea", Houthis' Ansarullah political council chief, Saleh al-Samad, was quoted saying.

United Nations officials have been trying to get the two sides back to the negotiating table after talks collapsed 2016.

Months later, a Saudi-led coalition backed Hadi's government and waged an all-out campaign against the Houthis and Saleh's forces.

"The port of Hodeida is a launching pad for terrorist operations threatening navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait", the Saudi-led coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said late Wednesday, commenting on the rebels' threats to cut off the shipping traffic unless the coalition halts the blockade of Yemen. UAE is a major partner of the military coalition fighting the Houthis.

He went on to urge the global community to adopt effective measures to force Iran into halting arms supplies to the terrorist groups.
