Shinning star Sunday Faleye fires CHAN Eagles top of Group C

Rwanda continued a good run at the ongoing 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after winning 1-0 in the second game of Group C against Equatorial Guinea at Grand Stade de Tanger, Morocco on Friday night.

Ogbugh and Faleye had further chances to score a match victor, but the Libyan defence held firm and looked likely to deny Nigeria a win until the 80th minute.

Despite their inability to get past the Amavubi in their opening game, Salisu Yusuf kept faith in the same lineup that featured in Tangier on Monday.

Faleye capitalised on the ball-watching Libyan defence before putting the ball past Muhammad to give Nigeria a 1-0 victory.

Instead, he stuck to the same starting lineup, and for the first 45 minutes, it looked like a disastrous decision.

Nigeria were finding it hard to penetrate the Libyan defence which was marshalled by Ahmed El Trbi, who put his body on the line in the 40th minute - blocking Stephen Eze's thunderous long-range shot.

Six minutes later, Mustapha Ibrahim came in for the battling but largely ineffective Anthony Okpotu, and Ekundayo Ojo also for Ifeanyi Ifeanyi 14 minutes later. The striker's low effort from outside the area went inches wide of the left post.

Sunday Faleye scored the match victor in the 80th minute.

Faleye nearly doubled Nigeria's lead after Ibrahim unselfishly laid a pass but for a timely intervention from a Libya's Ahmed Al Maghasi.

The results leave Nigeria and Rwanda on four points from two matches, with Libya one point adrift in third.
