Spurs clear the way for Arsenal to complete Malcom deal

Arsene Wenger's side are now eight points adrift of the Champions League places, and Redknapp does not believe that any of the current crop would stack up against previous Arsenal teams from the Premier League era.

With star forward Alexis Sanchez left at home, Arsenal squandered a lead by conceding two goals in five minutes to lose 2-1 at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

And the visitors' mood worsened at the Vitality Stadium as quickfire goals from Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe - his first for the club - overturned Hector Bellerin's 52nd-minute opener.

Former Bournemouth midfielder Jamie Redknapp has claimed that the Arsenal side which lost to the Cherries this afternoon is the worst that he has ever seen. It was very disappointing today. "It doesn't matter who played, we respect all their players". It was the same failings, a lack of desire to get back into the game.

Wenger said he does not want the 28-year-old to leave, but conceded he can not guarantee the forward playing time and an unlikely route into Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup.

Reports Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Malcom are "hot air" and they will have a "hard time" trying to purchase the Brazilian, according to Bordeaux president Stéphane Martin. "[They were] devoid of imagination, anything you associate with Arsenal in the last couple of decades, like attractive football, quick, sharp, incisive passing... They were all after a slow build-up".
