Suspect on the run after shooting, wounding Tenn. officer

Officers said Wilson shot KPD officer Jay Williams in front of the Target on Washington Pike in North Knoxville on Thursday night.

"The officer, as far as I'm aware, did not fire his weapon", Rausch said. Wilson exited the vehicle and began shooting at the officer, striking him at one time.

It is not clear if the gunman was the only person in the vehicle during the attempted traffic stop.

Police are seeking an attempted murder warrant against Wilson in the shooting of Williams, Rausch said. Police said information was developed in the investigation that indicated Kristin Denise King may be in danger.

Let law enforcement handle this, ' Chief Rausch said, according to WKYC.

"If he is going to take a shot at an officer, he won't hesitate to shoot at anyone else".

KPD said if Wilson isn't apprehended by Friday morning, they're considering putting out what is known as a Blue Alert.

A man listed in a database as an Aryan Nations gang member shot an officer and is on the run, police in Tennessee said.

Williams was transported to UT Medical Center to treat a gunshot wound to the shoulder, where he was later released Friday morning. The alert is created to spread information quickly to other law enforcement agencies in the 29 states that use the system to speed up the capture of violent criminals who seriously hurt or kill local, state or federal law enforcement officers.

The Aryan Nations is the largest white supremacist prison gang in Tennessee, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

Facebook photos also reveals that Wilson, who is "very familiar" to local authorities, has a large swastika tattoo on his body as well as a Celtic cross with the words 'White Pride Worldwide, ' according to The Knoxville News Sentinel.
