'The Mayor' Canceled at ABC, Will Be Shopped Elsewhere

The freshman ABC series The Mayor has been canceled and future episodes of the comedy will not be aired on the network.

The Mayor stars Hall as Courtney Rose, an aspiring hip-hop artist who runs for mayor of his hometown as a publicity stunt and wins, surprising everyone, including himself. The cast also includes Lea Michele, Yvette Nicole Brown, Bernard David Jones and Marcel Spears.

Executive produced by Hamilton's Daveed Diggs, The Mayor was paired with Black-ish on ABC's Tuesday comedy lineup. Producers ABC Studios plan to shop the comedy to other networks.

The numbers that The Mayor brought in for the nine episodes (of the original 13 ordered) that have aired made it the least-watched and lowest-rated comedy on ABC, TVLine reported, which is pretty rough.

What is clear, however, is that ABC will not be ordering any more installments of the comedy.

The show averaged a 0.8 live-plus-same day rating among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen, and 2.9 million total viewers. It is unclear when (or if) the remaining four will air on ABC.

The Mayor is ABC's second cancellation of the season; straight-to-series drama Ten Days in the Valley was pulled from the schedule, with the Sunday drama being buried and burned off on Saturdays in December.
