Toyota will offer Alexa in its cars starting later this year

Toyota is the latest automaker that will feature Amazon's voice-activated virtual assistant Alexa in its vehicles.

CES 2018, Las Vegas, will be the place where many new AR and VR products make their debut, with smart glasses being just one example of the kinds of interesting new products that'll be making their way onto the market. CES 2018 provided a tremendous platform for Vuzix to showcase the Vuzix Blade to consumer electronics industry participants, the press, enterprise and many new potential strategic and OEM partners.

Alexa integration into Toyota and Lexus infotainment systems will allow driver and passengers to ask for directions, control entertainment, queue news, control the smart home, and access other Alexa skills available through Amazon's marketplace.

The inclusion of Alexa on a non-Amazon product is not a first, though, as previous year the smart assistant debuted on the HTC U11, Huawei Mate 9, and Motorola Z series smartphones.

The AR glasses by Vuzix will enable the core Alexa's capabilities, such as showing sports scores, right on the glasses, as by Bloomberg.

Launched with speaker family back in 2014, Alexa is now taking on Google Assistant with its recent debut in the market of smartphones. "This is the beginnings of leaving your phone in your pocket", said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix. Similar to what Google Glass offered in the past, the Vuzix glasses superimpose digital information on top of the glasses to help users connect with Alexa assistant alongside looking at the real world. Founded in 1997, Vuzix is a public company (NASDAQ: VUZI) with offices in Rochester, NY, Oxford, UK and Tokyo, Japan. The Company specifically disclaims any obligation or intention to update or revise these forward-looking statements as a result of changed events or circumstances that occur after the date of this release, except as required by applicable law.
