Trump lawyer brokered $130K payment to porn star

A lawyer for President TrumpDonald John TrumpHouse Democrat slams Donald Trump Jr. for "serious case of amnesia" after testimony Skier Lindsey Vonn: I don't want to represent Trump at Olympics Poll: 4 in 10 Republicans think senior Trump advisers had improper dealings with Russia MORE reportedly arranged a six-figure payment to a former adult-film star to keep her from discussing a sexual encounter with Trump, according to a new report Friday.

The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, say that Cohen arranged the payment in October 2016 to Stephanie Clifford, who goes by the stage name Stormy Daniels.

The pair are alleged to have met during a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe in 2006, a year after Trump married his current wife, Melania.

On Friday afternoon, the White House issued a statement calling the Journal's story "old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election".

"I recently became aware that certain news outlets are alleging that I had a sexual and/or romantic affair with Donald Trump many, many, many years ago". The Journal reported at the time that the National Enquirer, which supports Trump, paid a former Playboy model $150,000 for a story about an affair with the future President, but the tabloid did not publish it. The company said she was paid to write fitness columns and appear on magazine covers. The blog post did not get much attention at the time, but Trump and Clifford both denied the rumor.

The reported payment to Clifford would also not be the first time that Trump has settled out of court with a woman in relation to allegations of sexual impropriety.

Clifford reportedly received the payment through her lawyer's client-trust account.

Clifford, 38, has appeared in nearly 150 pornographic films as well as Steve Carell's 2005 film The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Seth Rogen's Knocked Up in 2007. Cohen denies the sexual encounter took place. (Reached through her representatives, Clifford did not immediately respond to a request for comment). "I am the fix-it guy", he said in an interview in January 2017 before Trump's inauguration.

It's worth noting that Jessica Drake, another adult-film star, alleged in October 2016 that Trump "kissed her and two other women", without consent, back in 2006.

"I did not sign [a nondisclosure agreement], nor have I received any money for coming forward", Drake said this week in an emailed statement.

The White House has not yet released an official statement regarding the alleged payment.
