Trump's cognitive ability normal, says White House doctor

Speaking during the White House press briefing on Tuesday, Dr Jackson said: "I've got to know him pretty well and I had absolutely no concerns about his cognitive ability".

Trump's mental state, which had been an occasional topic of debate since the start of his presidential campaign, became a focus of national conversation in recent weeks with the publication of Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury.

"If he had some type of mental, cognitive issue ... this test is sensitive enough". He said the testing was conducted at the President's wishes, and the results were normal.

Based on his height and weight, Trump's BMI falls either ever so slightly inside the "obesity" range or right on the borderline between "overweight" and "obese", which Dr. Jackson said he and the president both plan to address.

Jackson did note that the president "would benefit" from a diet lower in fat and carbohydrates and also more exercise.

Ziad Nasreddine has just learned that the Montreal Cognitive Assessment he developed as a young neurologist two decades ago was used to assess the cognitive functions of one of the world's most powerful people.

His "incredibly good" genes allow the 71-year-old president to stay in "excellent" health, Jackson said after the president's physical exam which took place Friday.

"The president asked me to do it", Jackson said. She did not directly respond to one about whether the president would sign another stopgap funding measure later this week to avert a government shutdown at 12 a.m. Saturday, but she said White House officials do not want the federal lights to go dark.

Though there were things Trump could do better, he said - on the whole - the President is in "very, very good health".

In terms of next year, Dr. Jackson said if the president wants another cognitive exam, then they will administer one.

He recalled that the president was on Sudafed days leading up to the December 6 speech where he discussed moving our embassy and appeared to slur his words.

Under federal medical privacy laws, Jackson can not release any information about Trump's health without his permission.

Keen to put an end to rumours about his mental health, which peaked when he appeared to slur his words as he announced that the U.S. would recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital last month, the 71-year-old asked Dr Ronny Jackson to carry out the assessment and scored a flawless 30/30. Jackson said he hopes to bring down the LDL or "bad cholesterol" score with diet, exercise and statin medication. "I'll just say, what Senator Durbin has portrayed is a misportrayal", Cotton told Little Rock radio station KARN on Tuesday. No matter who the person is, for me it's an honour.

Despite his sedentary lifestyle, Jackson gave Trump a glowing review, saying that life-long abstinence from tobacco and alcohol had contributed to his health.

Jackson, the White House physician, said Tuesday that Trump scored a flawless 30 out of 30 on the test. "He is fit for duty".
