On day one, South Africa won the toss and chose to bat with the pitch surprising everyone with its flat nature.

With the first Test completed inside nine sessions on a wicket that gave the fast bowlers plenty to work with, there had been concerns the strips at Centurion and the Wanderers (for the third Test) would provide similar results. It all started with Ishant Sharma knocking over AB de Villiers after the tea break. Du Plessis' 63 dragged his team to 335 all out at SuperSport Park after useful lower-order partnerships of 31 with Keshav Maharaj (18) and 42 with Kagiso Rabada (11) on the second day.

However, the Ishant-Bhuvneshwar swap is still not confirmed even though the other two changes are more or less certain.

Hashim Amla made his 82 off 153 balls with 14 fours. All credit to Indian bowling department as Ashwin pick four wicket for them. It was a clear case of applying himself and making hay as the sun shone. It did not take long for them to feel the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was dropped for Ishant Sharma. They haven't played on this type of wicket recently. If not, this is set to be a run feast at the Centurion. It only helped that this is his home ground. Bloy has played his part in ensuring that.

But that shouldn't detract from some of the stroke-play he dished up. The Proteas though, with Captain Faf on the crease, will look to score some quick runs and take the score above 350. The hosts went into lunch at 78/0 and the first session belonged to the hosts.

He managed to strike a good balance between protecting the tail and trusting them to hold the Indian attack at bay.

He said the game was pretty even as this point.

"We might look into doing something different but definitely no need to panic as a batting unit". I like to believe I was just dogged enough. But there wasn't sufficient evidence to overturn the on-field umpire's decision.

However, two run-outs and a wicket by Ashwin within 13 balls saw South Africa slump from 246 for 3 to 251 for 6 as India sought to wrest control of the match while somewhat masking a couple of questionable selections in the playing XI.

Ashwin doesn't have great statistics in South Africa, England and Australia, but he has rarely been handed out conditions that make him a factor. He is a person who leaves the ball outside the off stump.

India then attacked Amla with short stuff as also attempting to lure him outside the off-stump.

Two balls later, Ashwin dismissed De Kock for a golden duck, caught at slip. This included the dismissals of Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander. In the end he had to run back straight to the dressing room without scoring.

Welcome back as another intriguing day of Test cricket at Centurion awaits fans after India launched a late comeback to share honours with hosts South Africa on the opening day of the second Test. Stay tuned for live updates and scorecard from the zeenews.com sports team.
