West Brom boss Pardew confirms Evans replacement identified

West Brom defender Evans is a target for both Manchester City and Arsenal, though his preference is apparently to join the champions-elect.

The Sun say that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is keen on Northern Ireland global Evans, could beat Manchester City to his signature this month.

However, it is suggested that Arsenal and City could use either Mathieu Debuchy or Eliaquim Mangala respectively, as makeweights in any deal for the former Manchester United man.

West Brom are thought to want around £25 million for Evans, who has 18 months left on his existing contract at the Hawthorns and indicated to the Midlands club, now second bottom of the Premier League, that he would be unwilling to sign a new deal.

Debuchy was actually brought to England from Lille by current West Brom boss Alan Pardew, though they only spent a season-and-a-half together before the Frenchman moved to Arsenal.

City need cover for injury-stricken captain Vincent Kompany identified the experienced Evans as the man they wanted last summer.

The report claims that Arsenal may have an advantage in the chase for Evans' signature as West Brom are believed to be interested in bringing Gunners full-back Mathieu Debuchy in the opposite direction.

The Northern Ireland worldwide has been linked with a move to a top-six club since the summer transfer window.

"He is under contract for West Brom".

They were unable to push a deal through in August but are now making a renewed effort to get him to the Etihad.

Sky Sports News presenter Jim White recently provided quotes from Pardew on Evans' situation and the chances of him leaving West Brom this winter: "There's been no bid for Jonny, so there's no decision to be made on that".
