Zidane: I'm exhausted people saying Real Madrid are bad

Real Madrid lost 1-0 at home to Villarreal as pressure mounted on coach Zinedine Zidane.

Pablo Fornals scores an 87th-minute victor as Villarreal record a 1-0 victory over Spanish champions Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. In their last La Liga game, Madrid drew 2-2 with Celta de Vigo.

Pablo Fornals netted Villarreal's victor in the 87th minute, prompting loud boos by the home crowd which three days ago saw their team draw with second-division club Numancia 2-2 in the Copa del Rey.

The game kicks off at 3.15pm meaning it is not available on UK TV, instead the Girona vs Las Palmas game was on at 12pm and Eibar v Atletico Madrid is on at 5.30pm and Deportivo La Coruna v Valencia at 7.45pm.

Zidane's Madrid welcome sixth-placed Villarreal to the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, and despite having little chance of winning LaLiga are still in the running in the Copa del Rey and face PSG in the ChampionsLeague round of 16.

Ronaldo also had a chance just moments before halftime.

Gareth Bale had the ball in the back of the Villarreal net in the 13th minute, but the Welshman's header was ruled offside, with replays confirming that it was indeed the correct decision.

Cristiano Ronaldo was thwarted from close range on the stroke of halftime by a breathtaking save from Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

He made an even better stop to palm Ronaldo's 25-yard dipping free-kick over the top via the crossbar, before the Portugal captain wastefully dinked over Asenjo and wide of the left post after latching onto Luka Modric's throughball. Fornals picked up the loose ball just outside the area and chipped it over the goalkeeper for the stunning victor.

Girona reached ninth place in the 20-team standings.
