"Shooting Uptown at Second and St. Charles we have identified the perpetrator and now have arrest warrant for that person who was actually a known acquaintance with the victim at that parade", said NOPD Chief Michael Harrison.

Mardi Gras came to a violent end in New Orleans after three separate shootings that left five people wounded and three dead.

Another parade route shooting wounded two teenage boys. Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where he later died.

Crowds of people lined the streets of New Orleans on Tuesday to celebrate Mardi Gras and bring carnival season to a close.

After days of parades, balls, king cake and costumes, Fat Tuesday has concluded and the city is entering a period of restraint with Lent. Others had set up ladders for their kids to sit on and catch beads and throws from the passing Zulu parade, one of two main parades that take to the streets on Fat Tuesday.

After last year's Mardi Gras, critics had voiced their disapproval of the Comic Cowboys' float signage, and that is believed to be the reason for Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson and City Councilman Joel Daves leaving the organization.

People roamed the French Quarter in fancy costumes often sewn by hand, drinking cocktails and taking pictures of and with the other costumed revelers. Revelers took to the streets in elaborate or amusing costumes evoking Marie Antoinette, President Donald Trump and glamorous vampires.

The first two shootings happened in the afternoon, when fights broke out near the traditional parade route.
